So, this post is woefully overdue, but I’ve had a bit of writer’s block lately. Hopefully this helps. Two days of bachelorhood with some fishing, brews, and basketball mixed in. Couldn’t ask for much more… Mecan River and Chaffee Creek My fishing adventure started Saturday. I nearly ruled out fishing as sustained winds of 20-30 […]View Article
Jason began fishing as a toddler, but didn’t take up fly fishing until the year 2000, and he hasn’t looked back. Fellow contributor Greg Smith introduced him to the sport and taught him the ropes in the small spring creeks of southwest Wisconsin. Jason has since expanded to fly fishing for pretty much any species he can land. Much of Jason’s experience focuses on the driftless region of Wisconsin, Iowa, and Minnesota, though he has fished all over Wisconsin and has experience in the upper penninsula of Michigan, Montana, and Canada.
Jason resides in the city of Cedarburg, just north of Milwaukee. Since moving from the driftless region of S/W Wisconsin to the S/E corner of the state, Jason has shifted his primary focus to smallmouth bass fishing, especially on the Milwaukee River.
Jason wanted to start Rx Fly Fishing as a creative outlet focused on the sport he loves.
When not fishing, Jason works as a Business Analyst at a software company in Milwaukee, and loves spending time with his wife, two sons, and two golden retrievers.

The Central Wisconsin trout streams of the “Sand Counties” have been an enigma for me for a number of years. Earlier in my fly fishing career, I tried fishing a few of them with little success. I was used to the limestone creeks of S/W Wisconsin, and the slower, sandy-bottomed creeks in the middle of […]View Article brown trout, Pine River, rainbow trout, White River
I’ll post a full field report soon, but had to get up some great pics of our (almost) annual trip to Nothern Wisconsin / Upper Penninsula of Michigan over Memorial Day weekend. It was one for the ages. Great weather and big fish. What a trip!View Article
It’s become something of an annual tradition that Greg, Josh, and I will get together for a trout outing near La Crosse during the early season. We missed last year because of various family “stuff” going on, and were smart enough this year to book our gathering late in the early season to avoid the […]View Article brook trout, brown trout, driftless, trout
It’s an easy pattern with a super-secret special ingredient. And it’s also something of a magical fly (check out my post about our dog, Ruby, for details). The golden scud works great in the streams in S/W Wisconsin. I’ve had particular success with it in Grant County streams during the summer. It never fails.View Article flies, trout, tying, video
