It’s an easy pattern with a super-secret special ingredient. And it’s also something of a magical fly (check out my post about our dog, Ruby, for details).
The golden scud works great in the streams in S/W Wisconsin. I’ve had particular success with it in Grant County streams during the summer. It never fails.
Hook: Size 12-16 scud hook (I use 14 most often)
Thread: 8/0 black
Weight: Round lead-free wire or gold tungsten bead
Body: Fine tan dubbing (or golden retriever undercoat fur brushed out)
Back: 1/8″ tan Scud Back with thin coat of Clear Cure Goo Hydro
Rib: Fine copper Ultra Wire
