East Beaver Creek runs through Beaver Creek Valley state park in S/E Minnesota, about 30 minutes from downtown La Crosse. The creek rises from a large spring in the center of the park’s campground, and the gin clear water that runs through the length of the park is kept cold by the hardwood forest that covers the valley, and numerous smaller springs that enter the creek throughout the park. The creek holds mostly browns, but brook trout can be caught here as well. The trout in this creek are easily spooked and can be challenging to catch, but if you’re lucky enough to do so, you’ll be rewarded with some of the most vividly colored trout in The Driftless.
It’s been an especially long winter, and it was a pleasure to finally experience the park for the first time this year in some sunny 70 degree weather.
Enjoy the photos.
